Holiday in a rental camper in Munich? Our recommendations for your first night stay

Campsites and pitches – up to a maximum of 90 minutes driving time from Bavarian Camper in Anzing (near Munich, Bayern)

When we welcome our international guests, we are often asked: “Where can we stop for 1-2 nights with the rented camper in an uncomplicated and nice way?”. After a strenuous journey, it is more pleasant not to leave hundreds of kilometers behind you. Quite apart from the fact that Munich is always worth a visit. And nearby campsites are also very popular for the return journey, so that you don’t get into time trouble on the day of departure due to traffic jams.

So much for the theory. Unfortunately, Munich is not a particularly good destination for motorhome travelers. Places close to the city with connections to the city centre are in short supply. But there are a few options and we present them to you here. Just like our favorites for the first (last) night a little outside.

Camping options with sightseeing in Munich

The Stadtcamping an der Isar

Very central with connection to the subway and close to the Munich Zoo. Not bookable and not open all year round. At the moment, the somewhat outdated square is being renovated. You will find there many young people – with motorhomes or even with tents. Families are rare. https://campingplatz-thalkirchen.de/

Parking space at the Allianz Arena

Right next to the stadium of FC Bayern Munich there are overnight parking spaces for motorhomes. But not if there is a game in the stadium on that day. On all other days, however, you can get fresh water here and take care of your camper (e.g. disposalof trash or grey water). A stadium tour can be done in a few steps and the subway is also close.

Langwieder See campsite

is located on the lake of the same name and is about 15 minutes from Munich city by motorhome. To relax for a day after a flight, swim a little and play mini golf, the course is really suitable. Personally, we don’t know Camping Langwieder See yet, but we plan to visit it for you soon.

Campingplatz München

Located on the outskirts of Munich and well connected to the city centre by bus and train, the campsite in Obermenzing presents itself. Open from March to October and with a good range of infrastructure. From Bavarian Camper you drive about 45 minutes. https://www.campingplatz-muenchen.de/

Favourite campsites with a special leisure offer

Therme Erding

The largest thermal spa in the world, according to its own statements, has set up its own motorhome park. Here you will find sanitary facilities and disposal facilities. The price is very fair at 17€/day (as of 15.4.2024). Tickets for the thermal baths are available from 4 hours and the Galaxy slide paradise in particular is always a highlight for travellers with children. From Bavarian Camper you can already be at the thermal baths in about 30-45 minutes.

Legoland

Not every child likes sightseeing – but every child loves Lego (and many adults too). About 2 hours by car from us is the Legoland Deutschland Resort – with its own campsite. Here you are already in the middle of the Lego world without having entered the park. If you book park admission and campsite at the same time, there are special offer prices. https://www.legoland.de/uebernachten/unterkuenfte/campingplatz/

Picturesquely situated campsites in the Bavarian foothills of the Alps

Camping Soyensee

Probably the closest place to Bavarian Camper (45 minutes driving time). Located in the middle of nowhere on an idyllic lake, you can spend the night here quietly and close to nature. After a night of relaxation at the Soyensee, you wake up refreshed to explore further on in the direction of Chiemsee and the beautiful Bavarian mountains.

Camping Schliersee

The Schliersee is probably the most beautiful lake in Upper Bavaria (Bavarian Campering Kathrin). And now there is also one of the most beautiful campsites in the region. Discover the place directly on the lake, the delicious gastronomy and of course the panorama of the mountains. Here you will find an ideal starting point for hiking tours, cycling or simply arriving in Bavaria. Since the place is relatively small, we strongly recommend that you call them in advance or book online.

Camping recommendations for families with extra programme & fun

Strandcamping Waging am See

Strand camping has a special reputation. The 5-star campsite offers an extraordinary amount for families – your children will not want to leave here. From Bavarian Camper, you can reach the site in about 1.5 hours. Due to the location, a special recommendation if you want to continue your journey towards Salzburg, Austria or Italy.

Camping Gitzenweiler Hof

For travelling families with destination Switzerland, we are happy to recommend the Gitzenweiler Hof near Lindau. 2.5 hours away from us, the “Gitz” offers not only visits to Lindau and Bregenz, but also a great leisure programme for young and old. Zum Gitzenweiler Hof

And last but not least, our best recommendation! Your flight leaves quite early in the morning? Your train is late and you won’t make it to a nice campsite the same evening? Just talk to us – we have found a suitable solution for every situation. Be it a parking space near us or a handover at another location. We are always happy to be there for our guests and are always creative in finding solutions.

Important note: In Germany it is not allowed to park overnight at most parking spots. Still, there are possibilities and you will find them for example in the App Park4night. Anyway, if you are too tired to go on driving, you may always take a nap everywhere.
